Assistant Director of Crisis Intervention Services:
This management level position is responsible, in conjunction with the Director of Assessment and Outpatient Services, for the oversight of the daily operation of the Agency’s Crisis Intervention Department. It is the responsibility of the Assistant Director, in conjunction with the Director of Assessment and Outpatient Services to develop, implement, and monitor delivery of Walk-In, Mobile and Telephone Crisis Assessments. The Assistant Director of Crisis Intervention Services will ensure the delivery of Crisis Services in an efficient, effective, and recovery-oriented manner based upon industry best practice and evidence-based/supported models.
This position will report directly to the Director of Assessment and Outpatient Services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities, in conjunction with or at the direction of the Director of Assessment and Outpatient Services include:
§ Supervises the daily activities of the Crisis Intervention Department in conjunction with the Director of Assessment and Outpatient Services.
- Assists the Director of Assessment and Outpatient Services in the development, planning, and administration of crisis and emergency services to include phone, walk-in, and mobile 24 hours/day, 7 days per week based upon current state regulations and best practice guidelines.
§ Ensures adequate staff coverage to handle client flow and incoming telephone calls and walk-ins. Ensures staff coverage and provides back-up phone and on-site coverage as needed.
- Ensures collaboration with community agencies and providers of inpatient care. Develops and maintains current resources and linkages.
§ Ensures completion of initial contact screening to include risk assessments and timely adherence to access standards for individuals whom seek additional services following their crisis contact.
- Develops, plans, and coordinates emergency delegate services. Ensures compliance with all governmental regulations regarding involuntary commitments and provides the County MH/DS Administrator’s Office with all required documentation.
- Assists in the development and implementation of procedures necessary for the operation of Crisis Intervention Services.
- Implements policies and procedures for the operation of assessment services based upon federal, state, managed care regulations and requirements.
- Assists the crisis caseworkers in facilitating continuity of care meetings or other meetings as directed by their supervisor.
- Assists in the coordination of mental health care for individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Work with courts, forensic units, hospitals, law enforcement and probation officers in assessing the potential MH services that may be accessed as diversions to incarceration for those who are demonstrating symptoms of a serious mental illness.
- Monitors Medical Assistance eligibility and provides back-up coverage for Initial Contacts as needed.
- Coordinates with other key managerial roles in the organization e.g. Psychiatric Practice Manager, Billing Supervisor and IT Director to ensure compliance with all access standards, medical necessity criteria, admission, continued stay and discharge criteria and CPT coding criteria based upon federal, state and county regulations.
- Assists the Director of Assessment and Outpatient Services in ensuring program compliance based upon all current federal, state and county regulations, insurance industry and best practice standards.
- Collects statistical data on crisis intervention services to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and to assist in program planning and analysis. Reviews/revises outcome measures within the program in conjunction with the Director.
- Determines staff development needs, develops training opportunities, and ensures compliance with the Crisis Intervention Department’s training plan.
- Adheres to all required agency personnel policies and procedures related to the employment, supervision and discharge of assigned staff.
- Acts as a liaison between Human Service Center (HSC) and other community services referring to the services.
- Ensures that all pertinent records, documents and related material meet all current federal, state and county regulations, insurance industry and best practice standards.
- Attends required, necessary and recommended staff development programs.
- Performs other duties as necessary and required by the Executive Director or his/her designee.
