We are looking to fill positions in Early Head Start (ages 0-3)

Columbus, IN

40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7:30am- 4:30 pm.

Hours vary depending on the classroom.

Pay scale based on education as follows:

  • High School Diploma/ High School Diploma with an infant toddler CDA - $19.96per hour
  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field - $23.03 per hour
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field - $25.08 per hour

Conditions:

  • Must pass Criminal Background Checks
  • Must pass Drug Screen
  • If candidate does not already have at minimum an Infant Toddler CDA, must be willing to acquire one. (Agency may help assist paying for the certificate with a signed contract).

Minimum Education requirement:

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma is required for Early Head Start. Would be required to sign an education contract agreeing to obtain a CDA.

Essential Functions

  • Implement nurturing, positive, and anticipatory guidance with children and be able to move and play with small children both in and outdoors, including routine tasks such as diaper changing, feeding, moving toys, washing laundry and dishes. Strong skills to communicate in a meaningful and appropriate manner with infants and toddlers. Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and able to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Learn and adhere to Head Start Program Performance Standards and agency policies and procedures and how the program implements systems to comply with the standards and licensing.
  • Provides responsive care giving to center-based children.
  • Follow all Active Supervision. Making sure the classroom/playground is in ratio, monitored by 2 paid staff, and that children are always visible to staff. Staff will be strategically placed in zones on the playground to ensure all children are always within sight and sound.
  • Maintain confidentiality as well as report suspected incidents (e.g., physical, sexual and/or substance abuse, contagious diseases, etc.) to appropriate parties as required by federal and local laws, and Human Services policies.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, work areas, student files/records to ensure availability of items, provide reliable information, and ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Assist children with toileting needs as necessary.
  • Follow Blood Borne Pathogens procedure.
  • Implement indoor/outdoor and quiet/active activities appropriate for age group to actively participate in the learning activities with children.
  • Collaborate with families to optimize development of each child and help to enhance parenting skills.
  • Implement academic, behavior, health, and nutrition plans to ensure compliance with established regulations and/or Performance Standards and encourage parent involvement.
  • Develop curriculum and individual plans for students in collaboration with classroom team to provide classroom activities and routines that support individual/group needs and/or deliver services in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Completes all paperwork requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Complete all required screenings, assessments, and reports in a timely manner and discuss verbally and in writing with parents.
  • Conduct home visits to provide information and resources to families and partner with families in educational planning and child goal setting.
  • Monitor students in a variety of educational settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Model conversation, manners, clean-up activities, listening, and everyday interactions to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Act as a support and resource person to help case manage families’ specific needs, advocate for parents, and encourage parent involvement in the program.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Prepare teaching materials and related reports to document family and child activities.
  • Fill out appropriate accident forms when necessary due to accidents and make a courtesy call when necessary to parent.
  • Daily health checks to assess each child’s physical condition, perform weekly head checks, promote, and model good health practices including brushing teeth one time during the school day. Administer medication as necessary and document on medication log at the time medicine is given.
  • Maintain files and records to provide up-to-date reference, cross component communication, and audit trail for compliance with district, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and a variety of other office equipment.
  • Ensure all necessary centers are set up for class instruction and gather and develop instructional materials.
  • Ensure that all participants regardless of race, gender, culture, primary language or religious beliefs are treated equally and all needs are accommodated so that high quality services are provided to all.
  • All other duties as assigned by the site supervisor.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.96 - $25.08 per hour
