Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education, business management, or a social or behavioral science and experience equivalent to one year of full-time work in educational instruction or training, behavioral instruction, or working with individuals with disabilities.

Substitution of education for experience: One year of qualifying graduate coursework in education, business management, or a social or behavioral science may be substituted for the required experience.

Substitution of experience for education: Additional qualifying full-time experience in educational instruction or training, behavioral instruction, or working with individuals with disabilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:

• Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
• Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority;
• Supply a fingerprint sample prescribed by the TBI based criminal history records check;
• Submit to a review of their status on the Department of Health¿s vulnerable persons registry.

Overview

This classification is responsible for vocational rehabilitation behavioral instruction work of average
difficulty. An employee in this class assesses student's work skills, develops instructional curriculums
and student learning plans, assists with the creation of student schedules, selects and implements training
methods for and evaluates students' progress. This classification performs responsibilities at the working
level under general supervision. This class has a moderate workload and functions at the working level.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction to students and participants focused on social/emotional support classes, employment skills, appropriate work behavior/attitudes and academic preparation courses for their area of study.
  
• Develops and revises curriculum to teach students at a level in line with current job trends and identifies the training needs of students and participants.
  
• Individualizes work activities and tasks to accommodate the abilities of each client to enhance self-sufficiency and independence for transition into the community.
  
• Prepares a variety of records and reports such as daily attendance records, student grades, progress reports, and behavioral documentation.
  
• Actively participates in meetings, events, advisory councils, committees, and maintains open communication across campus and with other vocational rehabilitation staff.
  
• Meets with students, participants, colleagues, counselors and/or individual supports and gathers information to address any behavior issues. Provides gathered information to the Supervisory Review Board to determine the appropriate action needed.
  
• Assists students and participants in developing their daily class schedules based on the chosen Area of Study Path.
  
• Establishes and maintains business relationships throughout the state to partner in the creation of student employment opportunities.
  
• Assists students in identifying internship opportunities that align with their employment goals. Establishes internship parameters and completes the internship packet with the partnering business.
  
• Directs or provides oversight and training to students and employers during internships. May accompany students to the internship site to meet with partners or provide job coaching.
