Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor¿s degree and one year of full-time professional-level experience in a social science, social service, or related field.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must:
Complete a criminal history disclosure form in a manner approved by the appointing authority;
Agree to release all records involving their criminal history to the appointing authority;
Supply a fingerprint sample in a manner prescribed by the TBI for a fingerprint based criminal history records check;
Submit to a review of their status on the Department of Health's vulnerable persons registry;
Possess a valid driver's license if driving is an essential function of the position.
Examination Method: Education and Experience,100%, for Preferred Service positions. For Executive Service positions, Minimum Qualifications, Necessary Special Qualifications, and Examination Method are determined by the appointing authority.
Overview
Summary: Under general supervision, the VR Support Coordinator is responsible for professional collaboration with VR Counselors. This classification will also serve as a liaison between customers and internal and external partners; performing duties of average difficulty and performing related work as required.
Distinguishing Features: An employee in this class supports and coordinates vocational rehabilitation activities for individuals with disabilities. VR Support Coordinators will engage with multiple colleagues across disciplines to ensure a successful customer experience. This class differs from VR Counselor in that the Counselor provides guidance to the VR Support Coordinator. This class differs from VR Field Supervisor in that an incumbent of the latter supervises a moderate-sized vocational rehabilitation staff to include, counselors, support coordinators, and other support staff.
Responsibilities
- Gathers information, completes applications, and conducts interviews related to customer employment objectives and needs for successful employment as part of the intake process.
- Collects required documentation to assist the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselor in determining eligibility and developing an Individualized Plan for Employment for VR services.
- Communicates effectively and timely with VR Counselors regarding all aspects of an individual's successful journey through the VR program.
- Ensures Vocational Rehabilitation Policy Manual and Community Rehabilitation Providers User Guides are followed accordingly for codes, fees, and service descriptions. Documents actions accurately and timely in the electronic case management system.
- Makes recommendations to VR Counselors for needed assessments based on intake discussions such as outside evaluations and career interest assessments. Conducts individualized career assessments based on VR Counselor recommendations and provides career exploration as needed.
- Monitors customer employment activities to ensure progression toward employment goals are made in a timely manner. Obtains customer approval when an extension is performed and documents necessary extensions to include next actions if needed. Maintains customer engagement during any extensions provided.
- Coordinates with VR Counselor regarding engagement of customers as needed to ensure timely progression of employment goals. Establishes working relationships with customers and performs communication as dictated by rules and regulations and/or internal policies.
- Assists in increasing referrals by attending events and providing information and building relationships with internal and external partners such as community outreach referrals, business services units, community rehab providers, and local education systems.
- Maintains a current knowledge of the VR program and is able to explain and describe the program to various audiences.
- Reviews documentation provided from the Community Rehabilitation Providers for timeliness, accuracy, and quality of information. Collaborates with the Counselor or supervisor to take corrective action as needed.
- Collaborates with the VR Counselor to authorize payment of VR services provided to customers.
- Reviews files for quality to ensure all the necessary documents are available and part of the record prior to customers' case closure. Recommends closure to VR Counselor for next action step.
