What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Vet Technician position at Humane Society Brand?
For over a 100 years, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay has been dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing care and comfort for companion animals in need. We’re currently seeking full-time experienced Surgery Vet Technician for our busy Animal Health Center.
- Holds or restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation.
- Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animal, under supervision of Veterinarian.
- Prepares patient, medications, and equipment for surgery.
- Performs routine laboratory tests.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- Provides nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Ability to place intravenous catheter in cephalic or saphenous vein.
- Performs TPR; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
- Able to set up intravenous fluids.
- Administers subcutaneous fluids.
- Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
- Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
- Preparation of animals for anesthesia and surgery, including placement of IV catheters and monitoring anesthesia.
- Perform venipuncture (taking blood samples) from animals
- Assist the veterinarian with restraining patients for pre-op exams when needed.
- Run a variety of lab tests and taking digital x-rays
- Other duties assigned by management.
MUST HAVE SURGERY EXPERIENCE AS A VET TECH TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION and be proficient with blood draws . Only candidates with the required experience will be considered for this position.
- $ 22.00 starting rate for non CVT's
- $ 25.00 starting rate for CVT's( Certified Vet Techs)
- Schedule is Monday-Friday( full-time position) may fill in Exam when needed, occasionally working on the weekends for events when needed.
