Job Summary
The Community Engagement Manager serves as a passionate ambassador of HSHC’s mission, responsible for building deep, lasting connections with the community. This role leads grassroots fundraising efforts, community outreach, and local media engagement while supporting major events and campaigns.

Key Responsibilities
Community Outreach (50%)
- Lead school, library, and community programming and partnerships
- Manage grassroots fundraising with local businesses
- Coordinate youth-focused initiatives like Pennies for Pets
- Present pet education in schools and guide student-led fundraising
- Facilitate peer-to-peer fundraising for signature events like the Woofstock Survivor 5K
- Serve as the point of contact for youth inquiries and school projects
Communications & Media (30%)
- Cultivate strong media relationships and serve as an HSHC spokesperson
- Write press releases, e-newsletters (Constant Contact), and campaign content
- Support social media and email marketing efforts
- Draft creative, clear, and mission-aligned communications
- Assist with crisis communications and trend-based storytelling
Administrative & Event Support (20%)
- Track outreach metrics and input data into CRMs
- Support key fundraising events (Wine, Wags & Whiskers, Woofstock, Tinsel & Tails)
- Recruit and manage volunteers for events and initiatives
- Assist with physical set-up/tear-down for events
- Identify grant opportunities and contribute to proposals
What You Bring
Required
- 2–4 years of experience in community engagement, communications, or fundraising (or equivalent combination with a degree)
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
- Experience with Constant Contact, CRMs, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Confidence presenting to diverse audiences (children and adults)
- Willingness to work in an active, animal-centric environment (lifting up to 50 lbs, allergens, noise)
- Reliable transportation, valid Indiana driver’s license, and insurance
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends
Preferred
- Grant writing experience
- Graphic design skills (Canva or similar)
- Familiarity with animal welfare or No-Kill philosophy
