Veterinarian

Humane Society of Boulder Valley
Boulder, CO Full Time
POSTED ON 3/3/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/28/2025
The Opportunity: Veterinarian
Humane Society of Boulder Valley (HSBV)
Overview
The Humane Society of Boulder Valley is seeking a full-time (30-40 hrs. per week) Associate Veterinarian to join our dynamic, growing veterinary hospital team. We welcome candidates with a passion for evidence-based, compassionate care and a desire to advance veterinary medicine in animal welfare.

Our full service, non-profit veterinary hospital, and soon to be 9-doctor practice has been open to the public since 1997. Our veterinary hospital team provides quality and compassionate medical services to pets with guardians, and the same high-quality care for animals in our shelter. Across the shelter and public practice, there is a diverse patient caseload with unique backgrounds, histories and living environments. This provides opportunities for veterinarians to encounter a wide range of conditions, illnesses and behavior challenges to hone their diagnostic skills while staying versatile in their approaches. The exposure to such varied cases stimulates collaborative problem-solving involving team members in all roles and an innovative working environment. Hospital and grant programs help to reduce the cost of urgent and general wellness care for pet guardians needing access to affordable veterinary services. Revenue generated by the veterinary hospital directly supports the mission of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley by funding health care for shelter animals.
We encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups including but not limited to women, members of the LGBTQ community, people of color, people with disabilities, and veterans. Spanish/English-speaking individuals are encouraged to apply. Applications and/or curriculum vitae will be accepted through March 23, 2025.
Position Summary
  • Public Practice (80%): Deliver high-quality medical services to clients and their pets. Responsibilities include performing physical examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures; documenting clinical findings and client communications; and providing informed care options.
  • Shelter Care (20%): Provide essential medical care to shelter animals, including sterilization surgeries, infectious disease prevention and control, urgent/emergent care, and compassionate euthanasia support.
  • Supports on-call services for shelter animal emergencies when scheduled and during hospital closures.
  • Participates in hospital rounds, contributes to the development of medical and disease control protocols, and collaborates closely with a team that includes the director of veterinary services, chief clinic veterinarian, and chief shelter veterinarian.
  • Demonstrates professional leadership through mentoring and supporting staff, volunteers and veterinary students to foster a learning environment that prioritizes both clinical excellence and ethical animal care.
  • Collaborates with the animal shelter and animal behavior departments to support the medical and pharmaceutical needs of animals enrolled in behavior support programs.
