Reports To: Intake & Outreach Manager
Wage: $19.00 per hour

The Humane Society of Greater Miami is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of animals in need. Our mission is to provide compassionate care, advocacy, and support for animals while educating the community about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Outreach Lead is responsible for overseeing and executing the Humane Society of Greater Miami's Outreach Program. This position requires a bilingual candidate (English/Spanish) with fluency in Spanish. The role includes leading adoption events, engaging with customers, and managing the outreach team at offsite locations. Additionally, the Outreach Lead will coordinate events, support fundraising efforts, and manage outreach materials to ensure the success of adoption campaigns. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare, along with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Engagement & Outreach:

  • Engage with community members, potential donors, and adopters at outreach events.
  • Promote the organization’s programs and fundraising initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals interested in planning or hosting future outreach events.

Adoption Support & Coordination:

  • Work closely with the Offsite Adoption Counselor to prepare adoption folders and necessary materials for events.
  • Select appropriate animals for outreach events in collaboration with Animal Care and the Intake and Outreach Manager.
  • Facilitate adoptions as necessary during outreach events, ensuring a smooth process for potential adopters.

Event & Logistics Management:

  • Supervise and coordinate the setup and teardown of outreach materials, including tables, tents, brochures, crates, etc.
  • Ensure the necessary equipment and materials are available for each event.
  • Manage the inventory and log of outreach materials to ensure proper tracking and organization.

Supervision & Leadership:

  • Lead and supervise volunteers and staff during outreach events.
  • Ensure proper care and preparation of animals attending events, including health checks, bathing, and grooming.
  • Maintain oversight of animals during outreach events, ensuring safety and well-being.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to ensure the availability of event signage and printed materials.
  • Communicate outreach needs and provide feedback to the Intake and Outreach Manager and Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Capture photo and video content during events for use on social media and other promotional materials.

Follow-up & Reporting:

  • Ensure that all necessary follow-up communication and actions are completed after outreach events.
  • Maintain accurate and updated outreach-tracking sheets and other reports.
  • Perform post-outreach duties, including returning animals to the shelter safely, cleaning the van, and completing outreach reports.

Special Events Participation:

  • Attend and support all approved outreach events, including regular and special events at locations like Aventura Mall.
  • Assist with event planning and preparation for upcoming special events.

Driver Responsibilities:

  • Operate assigned vehicle(s) in a safe and courteous manner, ensuring the safety of yourself, passengers, the animals and others on the road.
  • Adhere to defensive driving principles, anticipating and reacting to potential hazards to prevent accidents.
  • Park company vans in designated areas before the end of each shift and ensure they are properly locked for security.
  • Keep the interior of vehicle neat and free from clutter to maintain a clean and professional environment.
  • Notify the appropriate team or supervisor when there is a concern with the vehicle, such as mechanical issues or damage, to ensure timely maintenance and repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree is preferred, along with at least one year of relevant experience in areas such as community organization, special events, graphic design, marketing, public relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and successfully collaborate on projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with others with empathy, tact, and patience, while maintaining a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required due to the nature of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting and carrying animals and equipment over 50 pounds.
  • Walking, standing, sitting for prolonged periods depending on the task.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, squatting, and stooping to care for animals and clean areas.
  • The work environment may include both indoor and outdoor settings, with potential exposure to animal allergens, odors, cleaning agents, and varying weather conditions.
