Do you love animals AND people? Well then the Humane Society of Harford County is looking for you! We employ talented and dedicated animal welfare professionals in all areas of the shelter, and we are looking to expand our team! We are an open-admission, nonprofit, progressive animal shelter and take in approximately 3,000-3,500 animals a year of all species, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, reptiles, rodents, farm animals, and even fish! Please be sure to include any animal handling or shelter/rescue experience on your application and/or resume. We are especially interested in candidates that are multi-lingual, particularly if you are fluent in Spanish and/or American Sign Language!
REQUIREMENTS
All candidates must be 18 or older, pass a pre-employment background check, possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, have an excellent work ethic, be able to work effectively under high stress, and handle an emotionally and physically demanding work environment. Shelter Veterinarian (Full-Time)
We are looking for a dedicated Shelter Veterinarian to join our team and play a key role in providing high-quality care to homeless animals in need.
We are a progressive open admission shelter with an annual intake of approximately 3,500 animals (including dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, reptiles, birds, farm animals, and wildlife) and a 93% live release rate. Our 19,000-square-foot shelter facility boasts a large multi-room veterinary suite with new equipment and a well-stocked pharmacy. Compassionate care of our animals is our top priority and we do our best to provide the resources needed to be successful.
Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating animals, stabilizing ill and injured animals, overseeing day to day herd health, and overseeing our spay/neuter surgery suite and/or performing spay/neuter surgeries for shelter pets. The veterinary department, when fully staffed, includes five full time vet techs. Knowledge of shelter medicine protocols, particularly high quality high volume spay/neuter, is strongly preferred. Humane Alliance training is a huge plus! Must be licensed to practice in Maryland, or willing to become licensed in the state. Must possess or be willing to obtain a DEA license and MD CDS license (this is a reimbursable expense.)
