Statewide Animal Cruelty Investigator

Location: Central Missouri (Cities including Sedalia, Warrensburg, Warsaw, Boonville, Kansas City, Marshall, Trenton, Chillicothe, Marceline, and Harrisonville)

The Humane Society of Missouri is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Statewide Animal Cruelty Investigator. This position plays a vital role in protecting animals from cruelty and neglect while promoting responsible pet ownership across Missouri.

As an investigator, you'll work closely with local authorities, legal teams, and community organizations to ensure the welfare of animals in your assigned area. Your responsibilities will include investigating cases of animal abuse, assisting with prosecutions, conducting inspections of animal-related facilities, and providing support to communities in need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate reports of animal cruelty, neglect, and related issues across the state, responding promptly to calls for assistance
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and legal professionals to support the prosecution of animal welfare violations
  • Conduct routine inspections of stables, kennels, livestock auctions, and other animal facilities to ensure compliance with animal care standards
  • Attend animal welfare events, inspections, and other assignments as required
  • Provide guidance and support to municipalities, organizations, and animal welfare groups within your assigned region
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of all investigations, inspections, and daily activities
  • Assist in training and mentoring other Humane Officers and Statewide Investigators

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in animal handling, investigations, or a related field is highly preferred (3-12 months of relevant experience)
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A solid understanding of responsible pet ownership and animal welfare practices
  • Ability to maintain a calm, composed demeanor while handling sensitive or challenging situations

Additional Requirements

  • Residency within the specified region is required
  • Must be comfortable with overnight travel as necessary
  • Physical stamina for outdoor investigations and inspections
