Position Title: Veterinary Assistant
Location: St. George, Utah
Employment Type: Full-time

Hours: Weekly schedule may vary within Mon-Sat, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm
Pay: $16 to $18 an hour – DOE

Do you love helping animals? The Humane Society of Utah is looking for a talented and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team at our affordable spay/neuter and vaccination clinic in St. George, Utah!

Our clinic provides much needed, affordable services to members of the community as well as shelters and rescues. The Veterinary Assistant position is open to those looking to make a career out of their passion for animal welfare.

Required Skills

Six months to 1 year of experience in a veterinary hospital is desired. Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus, and a salary differential of $0.50 per hour may be paid to bilingual incumbents fluent in Spanish. While performing the duties of this job, Veterinary Assistants are regularly required to lift 50 - 75 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday and must be able to safely and properly restrain large and/or fractious animals. Veterinary Assistants must be able to kneel, bend, twist, stand and walk for very long periods, and converse with clients to explain procedures and vaccine requirements. Veterinary Assistants are regularly required to perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movements, feel the attributes of objects, and grasp, push, and reach with arms or hands. Other requirements include having a cooperative attitude toward clients and team members and understanding and strictly following all verbal and written direction from the Medical Director and Senior Veterinary Assistant Manager.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include safely and compassionately interacting with cats and dogs using proper low stress handling and restraint techniques, assisting with patient check in and check out, preparing patients for surgery, surgery recovery and monitoring, assisting with surgical rechecks, preparing surgery packs, drawing blood, preparing and administering vaccinations, inserting microchips, educating clients on vaccination schedules and the benefits of spay/neuter, providing exceptional customer service, communicating effectively with clients, team members and supervisors, daily cleaning, helping other team members, and contributing to a positive work environment using tact and diplomacy.
