We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Dog Caretaker to join our team! In this role, you’ll provide essential care and support to the dogs in our shelter, ensuring they have a safe, healthy, and enriching environment while they wait for their forever homes. Responsibilities:
- Daily Dog Care: Feed, water, and provide daily care for dogs in the shelter.
- Cleanliness and Sanitation: Keep kennels and play areas clean and sanitized to maintain a healthy environment for the dogs.
- Health Monitoring: Observe the health and well-being of the dogs, report any concerns, and assist with administering medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff.
- Grooming and Hygiene: Assist with grooming, bathing, and other hygiene needs to ensure the dogs stay comfortable and clean.
- Exercise and Enrichment: Provide regular exercise, walks, and playtime for the dogs to keep them physically and mentally stimulated.
- Socialization: Help with socializing dogs, promoting positive behaviors, and ensuring they are ready for adoption.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of each dog’s care, including feeding schedules, medications, behavior notes, and any other important observations.
- Team Collaboration: Work alongside veterinary staff, volunteers, and other team members to ensure the highest quality of care for all dogs in our shelter.
- Shelter Support: Assist with daily shelter tasks, including but not limited to laundry, restocking supplies, and other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Animal Care Experience: Previous experience in animal care, especially working with dogs, is preferred (e.g., in a kennel, shelter, or pet care environment).
- Basic Animal Care Knowledge: Understanding of dog care practices, including feeding, grooming, exercise, and health monitoring.
- Dog Handling Skills: Ability to safely handle and restrain dogs, using appropriate techniques to ensure both your safety and the dog’s.
- Veterinary Knowledge: Familiarity with basic veterinary terminology and animal medical care is a plus.
- Training Knowledge: A basic understanding of dog training and behavior principles is helpful, but not required.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with a team of staff and volunteers, with clear communication and a positive attitude.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to handle the physical demands of the job, including walking, lifting, and cleaning.
