The Controller serves as a vital steward of the organization's financial health, ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of accounting practices while fostering a culture of fiscal responsibility and innovation. This strategic role not only oversees financial operations but also partners with leadership to guide the organization toward its mission. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Financial Leadership:
· Serve as a trusted advisor to the VP of Finance and Administration, leadership team, and Board of Directors, providing financial insights that shape strategic decision-making.
· Champion initiatives to strengthen the organization's financial resilience and ensure long-term sustainability.
· Develop and implement innovative financial models and solutions tailored to a dynamic non-profit environment.
Financial Reporting Management:
· Monitor and safeguard the organization's financial position, ensuring resources are utilized effectively to maximize impact.
· Prepare accurate and timely internal financial statements and reports, providing clear insights into financial performance.
· Collaborate with department leaders to review financial results, perform variance analysis, and identify opportunities for optimization.
Budgeting and Planning:
· Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with the VP of Finance and Administration, fostering collaboration and alignment with organizational goals.
· Analyze budget performance and recommend strategic adjustments to ensure alignment with mission objectives.
· Provide guidance on resource allocation to achieve maximum efficiency and impact.
Integrity of Accounting Practices:
· Establish and maintain robust internal controls, ensuring compliance with GAAP and non-profit audit standards.
· Oversee the preparation of documentation for annual audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
· Continuously evaluate and improve accounting policies and procedures to align with best practices.
Asset Management:
· Protect and optimize organizational assets by implementing sound policies and controls.
· Ensure timely collection of accounts receivable and accurate management of cash flow.
· Develop strategies to enhance the organization's financial agility and resource stewardship.
Team Leadership and Development:
· Inspire and mentor the Accounting Department, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
· Provide ongoing feedback and professional development opportunities, ensuring team members achieve their potential.
· Recognize and celebrate team achievements while addressing challenges with integrity and care.
Organizational Development and Culture:
· Partner with leadership to nurture a culture of accountability, transparency, and inclusivity.

Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
· Minimum of 8 years of experience in finance and accounting, with a proven track record in leadership roles.
· Expertise in non-profit financial management, including knowledge of Abila accounting software and Crystal Reporting preferred.
· Exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a strategic and solutions-oriented mindset.
Physical Demands and Schedule Requirements:
· Ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment within an animal care facility.
· Monday through Friday schedule with flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed. This is an on-site position.

Salary : $80,000 - $85,000
