Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Coding Manager to oversee the coding of hospital discharge records, ensuring accurate assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes for both outpatient and inpatient hospital records. The position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and HCPCS codes. This is a full-time, hybrid position that offers flexibility and excellent benefits.
As the Coding Manager, you will supervise a team of 4-5 coders and oversee all activities related to DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding and Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI). You will collaborate closely with the HIM Director and CFO, providing insights and leadership in both inpatient and acute care coding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the coding process: Supervise the coding of hospital discharge records, ensuring accurate diagnosis and procedure codes are assigned for both outpatient and inpatient services.
- Regulatory compliance: Ensure all coding activities are in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- DRG & CDI management: Lead and supervise DRG coding and Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) efforts. Experience with DRG is a must, and CDI knowledge is highly desirable.
- Team leadership: Manage a team of 4-5 coders, ensuring high levels of productivity, quality, and adherence to guidelines.
- Data abstraction: Abstract pertinent data to support hospital operations and research activities.
- Collaboration with leadership: Work closely with the Director of HIM and CFO to provide updates on coding activities and departmental performance.
- Coding audits: Review and audit coder performance, ensuring accuracy and adherence to coding standards.
- Education & training: Provide guidance, training, and continuing education to coding staff as needed to ensure high-quality performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Acute Care Coding Experience is a must.
- DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) experience is essential.
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
- RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or HRIT (Health Records Information Technician) certification is a plus.
- CDI knowledge highly desirable.
- Experience in managing inpatient and hospital acute care coding is a must.
- Strong knowledge of coding systems including ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and HCPCS.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage a team and oversee departmental operations efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Outpatient and Physician Billing is a plus, though inpatient and acute care coding management experience is required.
