Welder -1st shift
Role Purpose: Responsible for fitting and welding of steel, aluminium and stainless-steel parts using a MIG and/or TIG process.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Reads and interprets blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements, layout, and procedures.
Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
Grind or clean weld joint of work piece.
Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
Positions and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixtures.
Selects torch, torch tip, filler ford and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of material.
Tacks assemblies together.
Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
Cleans or de-greases parts.
Performs all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.
Be able to move parts in and move finished product out of welding area.
Follow all safety rules and quality standards.
Ability to move parts in and move finished product out of welding area.
Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
Required to stand for extended periods of time.
Occasionally required to bend (sandblasting).
Adequate dexterity for using various hand tools.
Ability to install and uninstall small parts to complete parts.
Visual acuity to read directions and prints, and to inspect parts closely to ensure they meet specifications.
Ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
Physical strength to lift and carry 35 pounds occasionally.
Education and/or Experience:
3 years related experience and/or training.
Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or trade school preferred.
Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) is a plus.
