Right now we’re looking for a Bed Allocation Clerk to work with Clinical Utilization Program.
Hours of work: Available to work rotating shifts (Days, Evenings,Weekends)
Hourly rate: $27.043 - $27.941
Location: Humber River Health– all sites
Employee Group: Teamsters – Clerical
Responsibilities:
Ensures that the right patient is assign to the right bed at the right time by following CPOE orders and Bed Management Policies.
Takes bed request from partner institution, external clinics and in-house outpatient clinics as well as out of the country request.
Locates available beds in the hospital by communicating with the appropriate staff on the units and the bed management desktop.
Admits ED patients to the hospital and allocates beds for all admitted patients from ED, clinics, OR cases and out of the country request.
Consult with the PSC bed request when necessary to ensure appropriateness of bed assignment so that the right patient is assign to the right bed.
Maintains communications with inpatient unit clerical staff and resource person providing bed assignment and patient’s demographic information.
Assign beds in EDM and update bed status when available.
Updates the appropriate databases with relevant information on bed occupancy and patient placements.

Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Completion of secretarial and medical terminology courses an asset
- Completion of a Community College Medical Secretary Diploma an asset
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Minimum 2 year full time equivalent recent clerical experience required, preferably in a health care setting.
- Good keyboarding skills, with minimum typing speed of 40 WPM.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong interpersonal skills, both oral and written
- MEDITECH computer experience required with Community wide scheduling experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to deal with emergency situations.
- Excellent communications skills, both oral, written and telephone skills required.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize a varied and busy workload and cope with tight deadlines, frequent interruptions and emergency situations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment.
- Knowledge of a second language an asset
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
