Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Activity Aide/CNA is responsible for many aspects of the Activity Program. Under the supervision of the SNF Director of Nursing, this position performs a variety of activity and certified nursing assistant duties associated with patient care operations.  The Activity Aide/CNA must be able to provide direct care and supervision for residents when necessary. The Activity Aide/CNA assures residents are kept safe during activities and items that are safety hazards are strictly controlled.  The Activity Aide/CNA assists the direct care staff in keeping the residents involved in the unit socially, cognitively, and recreationally. The Activity Aide/CNA will assist with insuring that scheduled programming is carried out weekly or as scheduled. Some weekends and holidays are required.

% OF TIME PERFORMING DUTY

A

Assists with the development and implementation of recreation and leisure programs to meet the assessed needs, and capabilities of the residents in the long-term nursing unit in coordination with other team members.

 

B

Provides a variety of activities to meet individual resident needs and establish leisure educational programs.

 

C

Assists and document resident’s abilities and needs and record resident participation so this can be analyzed in relation to needs, interest and past lifestyle

 

D

Attends care plan meetings and other appropriate meetings as necessary.

 

E

Confers with other hospital personnel, superiors, and family regarding resident interests, needs and limitations, as well as the availability of resources.

 

F

Confers with other hospital personnel, superiors and family regarding resident interests, needs and limitations, as well as the availability of resources.

 

G

Assist with creating a monthly social program calendar and distributes to hospital personnel and residents.

 

H

Assists with coordinates programs with other departments in the hospital and interfaces with all personnel as appropriate.

Assist with creating and distributing monthly calendars/menus/newsletters to residents and families 

 

J

Assists with the recruitment, training and utilization of volunteer hospital workers.

 

K

Provides personal cares assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, toileting and transportation

 

L

Maintains clean, safe environment for recreation and returns equipment, tools and supplies to proper location after use, clean and in good condition.

 

M

Communicates clearly and tactfully with residents and their families

 

N

As a member of the health team, maintains harmonious relationship with unit and co-workers providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality patient care.

Transports residents to local appointments and out-of-facility activities via the facility van.

Assists with the responsibility for the care and maintenance of the facility pets.

 

Q

Observes and communicates changes in the patient’s condition to the charge nurse

Help transfer patients to and from chairs, lift patients, raises patient in beds and turns patients

Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy and expressed interest in their progress 

 

T

Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and family in accordance with the hospital standards. (responds promptly to call lights; replenish the ice; assures rooms are neat and tidy, ect.) 

 

U

Order patient supplies as well as any other supplies needed to maintain excellent patient care

 

V

Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Perform duties as outlined in the CNA job description as assigned    

 

 

Qualifications


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent 

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification 

Current BLS (CPR) certification 

Valid and unrestricted Nevada drivers license with excellent driving record/no restrictions 

 

SPECIAL SKILLS: Must possess effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, stable emotional make-up, creative, caring, able to work under stress. Professional conduct, honoring boundaries, setting limits and maintaining confidentiality are a must.  Must be able to assist with planning and implementing an ongoing activity program
