Position Description
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN/BIOMED
Position Summary:
Maintains the grounds, facility and equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures and as may be directed by your supervisor to assure that a successful maintenance program is maintained at all times.
Position Designation:
The position of Maintenance Tech/Biomed is identified as department safety-sensitive.
Department safety-sensitive positions mean employment positions, which may in the normal course of business:
- Require the employee to operate the company vehicles or heavy equipment, or
- Involves duties, which, if performed with inattentiveness, errors in judgment, or diminished coordination, dexterity, or composure, may result in mistakes that could present a real and/or imminent threat to the personal health and safety of the employee, co-worker, and/or the public.
Delegation of Authority:
As a Maintenance Tech/Biomed, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs routine maintenance and repair of the facility and equipment to include
plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, etc. in accordance with
established policies and procedures.
2. Services heating and cooling units/systems, as specified by the manufacturer,
in compliance with established policies and procedures.
3. Follows preventative maintenance schedules and prioritizes repair and maintenance
work to minimize disruption of hospital operations.
4. Performs daily inspections of mechanical rooms throughout the hospital to ensure
proper operation of heat, air conditioning and ventilation, and medical support
equipment.
5. Replaces burned out light bulbs, to include exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent
lights, room call lights, etc.
6. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for
administrative and regulatory purposes as required and/or requested.
7. Inspects, tests, cleans and monitors fire equipment, alarms, switches and sensors,
and requests repairs/replacement as necessary.
8. Performs routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveways, etc. by
cutting, trimming, policing, sweeping, removing snow, etc. as necessary/directed.
9. Maintain general plant and facility in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean and
orderly environment.
10. Assists with maintenance of storage sheds; and may assists various departments with
transfer of records or equipment to storage.
11. May assist Fleet Maintenance with facility vehicle maintenance, repairs, etc.
12. Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing
maintenance service.
13. Monitors and inspects work to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
14. Assure that the facility and its equipment is properly maintained for patient comfort,
Safety and convenience.
15. Assure the work areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly
stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of workday, etc.
16. Participates in rotation of stand-by call and responds according to department
policies and procedures.
17. Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information.
18. Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
19. Performs ESI testing on all equipment on an annual basis per maintenance connection PM schedule.
20. Performs Biomed preventive maintenance on equipment needed per manufacturer guidelines.
21. Performs routine maintenance of ice machines and refrigerators and freezers.
Position Qualifications:
Preferred Minimum Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Required Licensure/Certification:
Fork lift certification (if applicable)
Valid and unrestricted Nevada drivers license
Personal Qualifications:
Able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Experience in building maintenance, electrical, plumbing and mechanical field.
Knowledge of electrical and building codes preferred.
Possess the ability to make independent decisions.
Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors and general public.
Ability to work harmoniously with other personnel.
Ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing maintenance practices.
Be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Be able to safely operate equipment (fork lift, lawn mower, ATV, etc.)
Must be able to be on standby call and respond according to department polices.

Required Protective Equipment:
Gown, medical gloves, face shield as necessary and other equipment as required by OSHA regulations and hospital policy.
