Job Title: Secondary Language Arts Teacher (Middle School focus, with the potential of High School English courses that align with the candidate’s endorsed areas)
Location: Humboldt Middle School
Start Date: August 11, 2025
Overview: The classroom teacher is involved in designing a flexible program and classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth for both staff and students. The teacher will establish an effective professional rapport with students, motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge, and continuously check the students' progress through the curriculum. The teacher will establish positive relationships with parents and with other staff members.
The candidate should have a 7-12 English endorsement or willingness to obtain that endorsement.
Job Responsibilities:
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
- Set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to work toward achieving curriculum goals and the Iowa Core.
- Utilizes data to differentiate instruction and resources to meet the needs of all students in all locations.
- Strives to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives through instruction and action.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students regularly and provides progress reports as required.
- Works to understand the learning abilities of students regularly, seeking the assistance of district specialists as needed.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Enforce policies and procedures as directed by the administration in all locations.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteers.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Creates effective lesson plans for substitutes.
- Follows and adheres to the District’s policies around digital citizenship in their classroom.
- Supervise district and state assessment(s).
- Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal.
