Summary:
Hospitalists provide inpatient clinical care to patients who are referred to the Hospitalist service either from unassigned emergency department admissions, admissions from medical staff members or other sources. Patients are admitted and cared for on an ongoing basis. Discharges are done in a timely manner and within policy regulatory guidelines. Our Hospitalists serve as clinical team leaders for code blue, rapid responses and other emergent clinical scenarios, working to ensure optimal team performance and adherence to relevant guidelines. Scope of care includes adult internal medicine, critical care with back up provided by an on-call intensivist. Advance Cardiac Life Support protocol, and on occasion, medical care for ill obstetrical patient.
Responsibilities:
- Provides comprehensive primary care for inpatient clinical care to the patients admitted to the hospitalist service either from unassigned emergency department admissions, referrals from medical staff members.
- Coordinates with both clinical and administrative resources to ensure high quality, effective patient care. Provides teaching and mentoring to clinical staff on a periodic and ongoing basis.
- Assures that patients are admitted, cared for on an ongoing basis and discharged in a timely manner in accordance with policy and regulatory guidelines.
- Effectively collaborates with medical and clinical staff to provide efficient and effective use of resources, and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Actively participate in activities to improve quality and patient satisfaction, including medical staff committees, performance improvement projects, peer review and use of guidelines and protocols.
- Serves as a clinical team leader for code blue, rapid responses and other emergent clinical scenarios, working to ensure optimal team performance and adherence to relevant guidelines.
- Communicates regularly and effectively with patients, families, staff, referring physicians, specialists, administration and hospital departments in the care and treatment of patients referred to the service. Assists in the education of new Medical Staff members in effective use of Hospitalist Service.
- Supervising at times a history and physical or clinical assessment for patients seen by residents or students.
Qualifications:
- Practice Type: Hospital Employee
- Board Certified in Family Medicine
- Active Unrestricted Illinois License and/or Eligible for Unrestricted Illinois License
- Minimum of 1 or more years of experience
- Excellent communication skills
