Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Assists the Pharmacist in filling prescription items, as permitted by the State Board of Pharmacy
- Follows prescription dispensing procedures, accepting a new written prescription, accepting a refill request, selecting a drug product, counting and pouring, labeling, and obtaining refill authorization
- Effectively reports to the pharmacist and makes necessary corrections to avoid medication or dispensing errors
- Takes inventory, places orders, checks in drugs and supplies, stocks shelves and removes out-of-date items from the inventory
- Processes returned medications from the facility for credit or destruction
- Labels products appropriately
- Packages medications for dispensing and for delivery
- Inputs patient data and medication orders into a computer system
- Observes computer data entry procedures for new and refill prescriptions, patient’s drug allergies, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, drug-disease state contraindications, refill frequency, patient’s disease and medical condition, patient’s age or date of birth and gender
- Types in prescription information to produce labels
- Assist, research and process denied pharmacy claims by working with various insurance payors, pharmacy benefit managers, and long term care facilities * Ensures approval of claims through performing reverses as necessary on edits discovered during the filing process
- Identifies and proactively resolves denied claims by working with insurance payors, nursing facilities and family members to ensure minimal loss of non-reimbursed inventory
- Follows-up with Directors of Nursing and Nursing Staff to communicate unresolved denials or status changes to allow alternate courses of therapy to be prescribed or to resolve payor issues
- Completes the necessary authorization forms to ensure appeals are executed with the appropriate people in a timely manner
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and company information * Keep the work areas organized, clean as well as sterilize equipment and work surfaces
- Maintain ideas to improve and promote quality and quantity by demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness
- Communicates with all customers in a pleasant and professional manner
- Knowledge of Data Entry and IV experience is a plus
- Adherence state and federal regulations, as well as company policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements:
- Outstanding customer service skills and ability to work with healthcare professionals, nurses, and patients in a various settings * Good interpersonal skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology
- General knowledge of pharmacy and long term care regulations
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Ability to meet specified deadlines
- Ability to perform tasks accurately and efficiently when imputing information
- Intermediate typing/keyboarding skills
- Flexibility - this unique position will require flexibility in scheduling and most importantly - diversity of responsibilities and duties
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
