POSITION DETAILS

The Development Director for Major Gifts will report to the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Advancement and focus on frontline fundraising to secure major gifts for Hunter College. This role will manage a portfolio of approximately 125 individual donors capable of contributing between $10,000 and $100,000 and will emphasize targeted strategies, including the Mother's Day Campaign. The Senior Director will collaborate with the Major Gifts team and other stakeholders to enhance donor engagement and ensure effective stewardship.

  • Manage and nurture a portfolio of approximately 125 individual donors and prospects, driving engagement through discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Lead efforts to solicit and secure major gifts primarily from individual donors and alumni.
  • Design and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies that align with institutional goals, focusing on specific initiatives, including the Mother's Day Campaign.
  • Cultivate collaboration with internal stakeholders to streamline campaign progress and resolve challenges effectively.
  • Develop tailored donor cultivation and stewardship plans that recognize contributions and highlight the impact of gifts on institutional priorities.
  • Ensure timely acknowledgment and communication with donors regarding their contributions and outcomes.
  • Work with the Major Gifts team to share best practices and enhance fundraising strategies.
  • Mentor junior fundraisers, providing guidance on cultivation techniques and stewardship practices.
  • Monitor donor engagement and solicitation progress and evaluate campaign performance using CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tools, specifically Raisers Edge.
  • Analyze individual performance metrics to ensure alignment with departmental fundraising goals.
  • Plan and execute donor engagement events and receptions that support major gift strategies and foster strong relationships with donors.
  • Serve as a liaison between donors and key institutional stakeholders, ensuring that donor interests align with institutional needs and priorities.
  • Participate in regular meetings and joint strategy sessions with the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement to align efforts and foster a cohesive fundraising approach.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.
  • Proven experience in major gifts fundraising, preferably in an educational or nonprofit environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to represent the institution effectively.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and fundraising software, particularly Raisers Edge.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and mentor junior staff.

Salary commensurate with education and experience, within approved range $96,602-$115,330.
