An internship with Hunter Industries complements university coursework, provides first-hand experience of working in the real world, and the opportunity to develop relevant skills and knowledge for career readiness.

What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, you will innovate on an existing project, design and rapid prototype a spray nozzle, utilize CFD/particle-based simulation software to perform Design of Experiments, and collaborate cross-functionally while working on the 3 following projects:
NPD Project:
- Participate in one of our ongoing new product development efforts and take on a specific design challenge to help meet our product performance requirements.
Sustaining Projects:
- Characterize existing performance of some of our popular irrigation products, formulate a design of experiments (DOE) to improve performance, and utilize leading edge technology and prototype methodologies to evaluate solutions.
- Collaborate with the quality group and/or outside suppliers to assess the feasibility of different plastic additives or materials to improve the overall performance of our products.
What You’ll Learn:
You will have the opportunity to increase proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks), CFD (Ansys/ParticleWorks), root cause investigation, rapid prototyping, and project management. You will refine your CAD and rapid prototyping skills on the NPD and Sustaining Projects throughout the internship and will utilize SolidWorks to model your designs with support from your leader. You will also learn how to use CFD through online training courses to analyze the performance of their designs. Additionally, you will gain project management skills by scoping/planning your projects and reviewing the timeline with your leader for refinement and gain root cause investigation skills by learning about the fishbone root cause analysis method and applying it to their projects.
What We’re Looking For:
- Driven college students, or recent college graduates, with a major or degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Determined go-getters with excellent problem-solving skills who embrace challenges
- Organized individuals that are eager to learn
- Basic knowledge, skills, and abilities in SolidWorks, project management, 3D printing, and computational fluid dynamics
Selected candidates must be available to work on-site and full-time between June and August.

Other Job Functions:
Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

Physical Demands:
Ability to sit for extended periods of time to use the computer, to perform paperwork activities, to attend meetings, etc. Intermittent walking to gain access to areas within the facility.
Ability to climb stairs to gain access to the upper-level work area.
Finger dexterity sufficient to use a computer and to complete paperwork activities.
Visual acuity sufficient to use a computer and to read and complete written documents.
Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals by telephone and in person.
Ability to bend, lift and carry books, files and office supplies and other items weighing up to 30 pounds.
Work Environment:
Office setting with temperature controls.
