What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trail Ambassador position at Hunterdon County Division of Parks & Recreation?
The Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for four seasonal full-time Trail Ambassador positions. Trail Ambassadors will be based out of Echo Hill Park in Clinton Township, NJ. Employees may also be required to report to other Hunterdon County Park locations as needed, including but not limited to Deer Path Park in Readington Township, South County Park in East Amwell Township, the Hunterdon County Arboretum in Clinton Township, Three Bridges Section of the South Branch Reservation in Readington Township, and Point Mountain Reservation in Lebanon Township.
Dates: Monday, June 3 through Friday, August 16, 2024, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Employees will be asked to shift their schedule one or more days per week to accommodate public programs, this may include a weekend day, but the work week will not exceed 40 hours.
Qualifications: Must be a New Jersey Resident. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older by time of employment. Patience, maturity, flexibility, and enthusiasm are key. Must be comfortable working outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Valid NJ driver’s license required. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
o Informal public contact on trails, providing education & information to trail users
o General Park information/guidelines for park use
o Information about the natural world/environment
o Leave No Trace principles
· Assist with set-up and parking during large events, such as outdoor concerts (Concerts are Thursday nights until 10:30PM)
· Help lead canoe and kayak trips (training provided, June 4-7 & June 10-14) (Trips can be weeknights or a weekend day)
· Assist education staff with nature and recreation programming for participants of all ages, including summer camp programs
· Assist maintenance staff with projects including but not limited to mowing and trimming (training provided), weeding, mulching, painting, trail maintenance and litter removal
· Care for captive education animals
· Clean and sanitize buildings, vehicles, restrooms, and high-touch surfaces
· Visit various parks to restock brochures
· Assist full-time naturalist and recreation staff with other projects as needed
Salary: $15.25 per hour.
