POSITION SUMMARY : The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Golf Course Superintendent with management, direction, and leadership of the golf course and grounds operations by performing the following duties :
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedules, trains, supervise all employees assigned to their specific golf course.
- Maintains course in proper playing condition.
- Prepares course for tournament play.
- Supervises all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course.
- Ensures that maintenance equipment is properly operating and reporting issues appropriately to the Equipment Manager.
- Observes daily playing conditions including mowing quality, green speeds, bunker conditions, course setup and soil moisture.
- Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
- Implements and enforces a comprehensive safety program in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
- Communicates as necessary with other departments to discuss conditions of the facilities, maintenance plans and scheduled events.
- Ensures that chemicals, petroleum, and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Maintains required records and actively seeks to minimize the use of these products.
- Attends staff and management meetings, turf conferences, workshops and other educational programs to maintain a current knowledge of technical and turf innovations and changes that may affect the department’s operations.
- Develops staff and fosters an environment where employees are working in the best and most efficient ways possible to achieve department goals.
- Performs golf course maintenance tasks as assigned by Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Golf Course Maintenance, and other tasks as directed.
