FUNCTION:
Performs responsibilities of converting raw material into Mat fibers and placing them onto the Mat line. Performs responsibilities as part of a work group, certifying in and maintaining competency in all work areas through rotation and on an as needed basis to maximize efficiencies and reduce costs. Assists other classifications with resolving product and/or equipment problems related to these responsibilities. Coordinates with and perform responsibilities of less technical positions.
DUTIES:
- Performs process responsibilities relative to the binder, bushing, silver, and raw and/or direct input material work areas (including, but not limited to, process operation, quality, troubleshooting, scheduling, planning, minor maintenance, distribution, administration, etc.)
- Utilizes computer skills to control the processes for communication, analysis, and troubleshooting (including, but not limited to, variance control, production changes, email, inputting data and analysis, developing reports, etc.
- Utilizes bushings, idler wheels, pull wheels, etc. to produce continuous mat strands onto the mat chain.
- Operates the binder mixing and delivery systems to supply binder at the point of contact required to produce mat strands.
- Inventories, procures, and loads raw and/or direct materials (including, but not limited to, batch, marbles, binder ingredients, etc.
- Work in a group to minimize black holes and maintain throughputs at nominal by making sound data driven decisions.
- Diagnoses operating problems, adjusts, and otherwise takes corrective action for each work area.
- Removes departmental waste.
- Operated distribution equipment and materials handling devices. Performs operator inspection of forklift on each shift, checks fluid levels and various forklift component systems for malfunctions, refills fluid levels as needed. Completes daily vehicle inspection forms.
- Ensures quality at each work area. Performs tests and equipment calibration associated with the tests.
- Performs minor maintenance (including, but not limited to, changing bushings, bushing accessories, pull wheels and thermocouples, preventative maintenance, resilvering, bushing alignments, etc.)
- Assists other classifications with resolving product and/or equipment problems related to these responsibilities. Participates in troubleshooting and developmental projects.
- Directs and initiates emergency procedures for breakdowns, power failures, shutdowns, startups, etc.
- Transport minor and/or portable equipment, parts, supplies, and furniture as directed.
- Performs general cleaning in the Department’s common areas to maintain a standard level of cleanliness (including, but not limited to, restrooms, offices, etc.)
- Prepares surfaces for and applies paint and other protective coatings to equipment, floors, building facilities, etc.
- Participates in the safety and good housekeeping programs as established within the Plant.
- Performs other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by Management.
