JOB DESCRIPTION
CLASS TITLE: Classroom Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Business
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 185 Days
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide educational and nurturing (forming positive relationships) services for students in designated grade(s), that align with federal, state, and district standards, requirements, laws, and regulations and fall within the HCCSC Master Contract.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a valid Indiana teaching license for the grade level and/or subject assigned. Incumbents must possess knowledge of HCCSC principles, theories, practices, procedures, and techniques used in lesson plan development and classroom instruction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide a rigorous educational program for students in designated grades based on student instructional goals; develop and implement lesson plans utilizing established district curriculum and instructional frameworks and in accordance with federal, state and district standards, requirements, laws, and regulations.
2. Plan and implement coherent learning experiences which motivate/engage students, are culturally proficient, and use class time effectively.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of content, effective pedagogy, students, Response to Intervention processes, and resources to support student learning.
4. Compile, review, and analyze student assessment and learning data, school improvement data, and curriculum mapping data to design precise and personalized instruction to enhance learning.
5. Maintain accurate records; comply with all district, state, and federal accountability requirements.
6. Collect and report student achievement data following HCCSC grading guidelines.
7. Create and maintain a brain-compatible classroom environment of respect and rapport that is conducive to learning and absent of threat.
8. Manage classroom and student behavior, using appropriate procedures and routines in accordance with district policies.
9. Organize and manage physical space to optimize learning; including limiting visual clutter.
10. Plan and deliver explicit instruction, modeling expectations for student work, and monitoring practice of students.
11. Communicate clearly and accurately to all stakeholders.
12. Use effective questioning and discussion techniques; engage students in learning.
13. Provide timely and responsive feedback/notice to students and parents, with support as appropriate for student success.
14. Identify student needs and collaborate with administrators and other staff to assess and assist students in resolving learning issues, behavior issues, and conflicts; implement Responses to Intervention and programs for high ability students, students with disabilities, English Language Learners, and other students with special needs.
15. Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
16. Participate in regular collaboration to reflect on teaching, plan instruction, monitor implementation, and respond to student performance data.
17. Grow and develop professionally, ensuring comprehensive knowledge and transfer to practice of district initiatives.
18. Provide work direction and guidance to instructional support staff as assigned.
19. Perform related duties assigned by the administration to meet the needs of the building or unit in emergencies or unique situations.
