PLANT OPERATOR
Classification: Non-Exempt

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective The Plant Operator is responsible for the daily operation of the wastewater treatment process including sampling, testing, cleaning and press operation.
Essential Functions
1. Operate press
2. Perform testing of wastewater
3. Perform preventive maintenance to equipment
4. Maintain sludge removal vacuum equipment
5. Maintain tanks and hoses
6. Maintain written records
7. Promotes courtesy and professionalism throughout the City of Huntington

Competencies
1. Considerable knowledge of mechanical systems
2. Considerable knowledge of safety practices including Lock out/Tag out
3. Ability to comprehend charts
4. Ability to detect deficiencies and make adjustments
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Work Environment
Work is performed in various locations. Exposure to all types of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. Employee is frequently exposed to raw sewage, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to drive, walk, stand, bend; talk, hear touch and smell. The employee is regularly required climb, sit, squat, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry objects up to 100 pounds. The employee will work in confined spaces and work from high areas. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Schedule
This is a full-time position. Multiple shifts. Must be available for 24-hour callout. Participates in Emergency Response System.
Travel
Occasional local travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum High School diploma or GED
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience operating heavy equipment
Basic computer skills
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Valid driver’s license
Employee is required to obtain Class B CDL with air brake and pintle hook endorsements within first 90 calendar days
Employee is required to take Class I Wastewater Certification within one year of obtaining
Operator in Training
