Responsibilities:
- Assists with the selection of new team members.
- Conducts orientation and training of new and existing staff.
- Monitors the orientation of staff and identifies further instructional needs.
- Schedules staff for adequate coverage to meet the needs of the department; maintains attendance records.
- Prioritizes, assigns and reviews work; provides feedback to director regarding staff performance.
- Assists the director in establishing and evaluating performance expectations for staff.
- Serves as a resource to staff.
- Ensures staffing levels which meet department guidelines; ensures optimal department coverage and minimal overtime.
- Monitors utilization of supplies and equipment for optimal efficiency and cost containment; orders and maintains supplies used in the department.
- Coordinates equipment maintenance and repairs; assists with recommendations regarding the acquisition of new equipment.
- Supports quality assurance programs for the department.
- Enforces policies and procedures; assists in updating and developing procedure manuals and protocols for ultrasound.
- Coordinates patient flow through department; resolves scheduling issues.
- Monitors and maintains the quality of films and services produced in ultrasound.
- Monitors charges and tracks financial performance in ultrasound.
- Obtains complete patient history for radiologist to assist in rendering results.
- Enters data such as type of scan and other technical data into computer.
- Conducts scan according to set protocol per organ or anatomical site.
- Views images on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures; reviews scan with radiologist prior to releasing patient.
- Develops images and compiles study for radiologist relaying all appropriate information.
- Assists in amniocentesis, aspiration and biopsies by performing preliminary studies to locate appropriate entry site and provide needle direction guidance.
- Calls referring physician for 'wet readings'.
Qualifications
Required
- ARDMS, ARRT
- 2 to 3 years of undergraduate education or equivalent.
- Must demonstrate thorough working knowledge of the practices in a specialized field.
- More than three up to five years of related work experience required, demonstrating a broad knowledge of the job responsibilities and methods.
- Physical Demands Requirement:
- Physical demands required for this role include lift/carry up to 50 pounds and a push/pull force up to 50 pounds
- Minimum 5 year’s hospital experience preferred
