DESCRIPTION
The Dance Instructor will be responsible for planning and conducting dance classes for students of various age groups and skill levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dance, excellent teaching abilities, and a dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. The Dance Instructor is to report to the Recreation Supervisor – Youth and Cultural Arts Programs. In addition, Dance Instructor Aides may be used to assist, and your direction of these staff will also be necessary.

- Has knowledge of various styles of dance.
- Experienced in choreography and dance instruction.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district policy.
- Able to work well with children.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
Works well with the Dance Coordinator to plan and develop dance programs, performances, and classes.Choose appropriate music, costumes, and themes.Works with the Dance Coordinator to create and develop dance curriculum, lesson plans, and class content that align with the goals and objectives of the dance program.Teach dance techniques, choreography, and help develop strong dance skills and artistry.Ensure that classes run efficiently and are well-organized.Provide guidance and support to dancers and parents, including resolving issues, concerns, or conflicts.Develop and maintain positive relationships with team members, parents, and other instructors.Assists staff and substitute for staff as needed.Maintains control of class participants and makes sure they are in the proper location.Ensure the safety of participants during practices and performances.Informs supervisor and completes necessary forms if an injury or accident occurs.Communicates with parents, registration desk, and supervisor in a timely and accurate manner.MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Proper use and storage of equipment and supplies.Cleaning of equipment / supplies used.Responds to parent concerns.Informs supervisor of any information that is distributed to participants.Wear appropriate dance attire and Huntley Park District name tag / identification during all work hours.PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
Employee will be working indoors in controlled climate and has exposure to fluorescent and LED lighting.While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen.Employee is required to stand, walk and use hands.Employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop or kneel, lift and / or move up to 30 pounds. As this is a skill-based instructional position, the employee is expected to demonstrate techniques associated with the programs they are teaching / leading.Specific vision requirements include, distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Employee must be able to follow supervisor directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness.
