DESCRIPTION
The Fitness Attendant is a part time position that is responsible for greeting and checking in all Fitness Center members. The specific day and hours for this position are Sunday, 6:45 am - 1:00 pm and other shifts that become available in the future. Monitor all activities within the Fitness Center. Provide daily care and cleaning of all equipment. Enforce all Fitness Center rules, policies and procedures in a consistent manner. Fitness Attendants report to the Recreation Manager – Aquatics and Fitness.
Requirements:JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Good customer service and phone skills
- CPR certification
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district policy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Basic knowledge and proper use of equipment.
- Understand and implement the District’s mission and values statements as created and approved by the Park District Board.
- Assist patrons in use of equipment.
- Perform other work-related duties for the effective related operation of the fitness center and its services.
- Assist staff and substitute for staff as needed.
- Cleaning of equipment.
- Maintain towel service.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
- Teach exercise classes, if qualified.
- Maintain promotional items as directed.
- Maintain an inventory for the center.
- Participate in special events.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Worker may be exposed to chemicals (cleaning materials).
- Worker may be exposed to indoor conditions.
- Possible outdoor condition including extreme heat.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen, stand, walk, use hands, sit, stoop or kneel, bend and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include, distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Workers are allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 40 lbs. as a guideline.
- Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (PERSONNEL)
- Must work closely with co-workers, general population/park patrons in public areas.
- Interact with patrons, co workers and park district staff in a professional and positive manner.
- Ability to resolve differences and situations that arise with staff.
- Responsible for observing, and providing feedback to staff regarding their performance.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding participant’s private information consistent with park district policy and legal requirements.
SAFETY AND FACILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents.
- Must comply with all safety policies and procedures now in effect or adopted in the future.
- Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness.
- Worker will use all required PPE.
- All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately.
