Directly Reports To : Recreation Supervisor – Youth and Cultural Arts Programs
The Theater Instructor position supports the Theater Coordinator during theater classes, rehearsals, and performances. This position assists in facilitating activities, managing students, and ensuring the smooth operation of the theater program. Theater Instructor reports to the Recreation Supervisor – Youth and Cultural Arts Programs.
Requirements : JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Previous Experience in theater is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children and adolescents in a theater, educational or recreational setting preferred.
- Passion for theater arts and a desire to inspire creativity and self-expression.
- Knowledge of theater tech equipment is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of theater principles, terminology and techniques is helpful but not required.
- Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district policy.
- Must be at least 16 years of age
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Theater Coordinator in setting up and organizing the classroom or rehearsal space before each session. Help distribute materials, props, and equipment as needed.Assist in managing student behavior and maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment. Help students stay focused, engaged, and on task during activities and rehearsals.Support the Theater Coordinator in delivering instruction and guidance to students. Help demonstrate theater techniques, provide feedback, and assist with individual or group activities.Provide administrative assistance to the Youth Theater Coordinator, such as taking attendance, organizing paperwork, and maintaining records of student participation and progress.Maintains cleanliness of the Cosman Theater.Promotes a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants in the theater program.Informs supervisor and completes necessary forms if an injury or accident occurs.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact positively and effectively with students, parents and staff members.Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow instructions from the Theater Coordinator.Wear Park District staff shirt and identification during all work hours.MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Proper use and storage of equipment and supplies.Cleaning of equipment / supplies used.Responds to parent concerns.Informs supervisor of any information that is distributed to participants.PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
Employee may be required to walk, run, dance, or perform other physical movements in order to demonstrate a skill set for the program being taught.While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen.Employee is required to stand, walk, and use hands.Employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, or kneel, lift and / or move up to 30 pounds.Specific vision requirements include distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Employee must be able to follow supervisor directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.

Employee must be able to read and understand materials such as, scripts, textbooks, manuals, and schedules.Must be organized, with good interpersonal communication skills, supervisory skills, safety awareness and sound judgment.SAFETY AND FACILITY REQUIREMENTS
