Job Title: High School Band Director
Reports To: Principal
Contracted Days: 190
Job Summary: We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated band director to provide musical guidance and direction to our band members. Ultimately, an outstanding Band Director should be able to interpret various styles of music and demonstrate exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills at all times.
Essential Duties:
- A passion for music. Patient, creative, and assertive.
- Demonstrate knowledge of content, pedagogy, resources, and students.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Directs high school instrumental performances including marching and concert band.
- Co-Teaching at the Huntsville Middle School Band Program which includes Beginning Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, and Middle School 8 th Grade Band.
- Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
- Provides for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, basketball games, pep rallies, parades, and community events.
- Organizes and implements band trips in accordance with district policy and regulations as well as student interest and ability.
- Arranges transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
- Supports band booster club activities.
- The ability to interpret various styles of music.
- Deciding on appropriate musical pieces for the band to perform based on the venue and occasion.
- Establishing and enforcing a performance dress code in accordance with established guidelines.
- Cooperates with the school administration in providing music programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of school-owned instruments.
- Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
- Submits budget needs annually to the principal in accordance with established timelines and guidelines.
- Develops and implements plans for the instrumental music program and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
- Strong leadership and listening skills. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem- solving skills.
- Effective communication skills.

Qualifications:
- Valid teaching license for the grade level and subject area assigned.
- Meets requirements for Arkansas Qualified Teacher designation, if applicable to the teaching assignment.
- High School Band Experience Preferred

The position involves regular walking, moving between classrooms, rehearsal spaces, performance venues, and outdoor practice areas. The employee may occasionally lift or push items weighing up to 75 lbs., such as large instruments, sound equipment, or field props. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, supervision, and performance of students during rehearsals, performances, and travel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for reading music scores and instructional materials, as well as distance vision for monitoring student formations and group movement. The role requires the ability to manage multiple demands, operate in high-energy environments, and effectively communicate with students, staff, and the public.
