Overview
The Pediatric Speech Therapist assumes primary responsibility for assessment, diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication and swallowing disorders in the pediatric population, birth to age 21. The therapist collaborates with other professionals on the patient’s medical team, maintains adequate records, and documents the appropriate progress reports and patient education. The therapist supervises support staff and students as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
Education Required
Masters degree from an Accredited institution in the area of Speech Therapy/ Communications disorders required.
License, Certification and/or Registration
ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology, or eligible to begin CFY with Successful completion of national exam required.
Alabama license in Speech Pathology or applicant with licensure pending CFY completion required.
Must receive BCLS certification within orientation period.
Experience:
Prefer pediatric experience with speech/language/swallowing/feeding disorders.
Training/experience for participation in Modified Barium Swallows.
