Overview
Under the general supervision of the department leadership, the auditor:
- Reviews and appraises the soundness, adequacy and application of accounting, financial and other operating controls in performing financial, operational and compliance audits, and promotes efficient and effective internal controls
- Assists in providing analyses, appraisals, recommendations and comments on activities reviewed to management and the Audit and Compliance Committee of the Health Care Authority Board of Directors
- Identifies and recommends strategies for process improvement
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of regulatory and compliance issues
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of changes and trends in the accounting and auditing professions
- Maintains competence and licensure/certification through on-going professional development
- Provides data collection and analysis support for all department engagements, as necessary, by using available data mining tools
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following disciplines required (Accounting, Finance, Business Administration with a core emphasis in Accounting).
Preferred Certifications include:
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Certified Public Accountant CPA)
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
- Certified Healthcare Internal Audit Professional (CHIAP)
Experience:
- This position requires a professional service orientation with strong presentation skills. Extensive working knowledge of auditing and accounting principles, healthcare regulations and the ability to proactively remain current on a variety of regulatory and auditing issues are required.
- This position is expected to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders including senior management, physicians, clinical and non-clinical personnel.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems or design relatively complex systems and programs that cross departmental and divisional lines.
Additional Skills/Abilities:
- Experience with data analytics software or other data analysis software is a plus.
- Requires computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint and database programs, excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to assess risk and determine audit scope and direction given by department leadership..
- Should have good analytical, problem-solving, and human relations skills since the job consists of many complex and diversified tasks, processes or operations, requiring the selection and application of the most appropriate of available guidelines, procedures and precedents.
- Maintains a partnership relationship with the compliance team to strength audit and compliance programs.
