GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs obstetric and gynecologic assistance to the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) provider/staff in a clinical setting. Performs clerical, billing, and processing functions of the assigned work area as well as more difficult and complex functions which involve decisions of moderate degree and require considerable typing, customer service, and time management skills. Complies with all safety and infection control standards. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the clinical supervision of the MFM provider and administratively under the clinical coordinator who reviews work for completeness and accuracy in conformance with policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Keeps rooms and equipment clean and stocks with necessary supplies.

2. Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react competently, and triage the unique needs of patient age groups served.

3. Registers and interviews patients. Keys pertinent patient information into the computer system including patient demographics, insurance information, and medical history. Verifies patient insurance and identifies proper billing procedures.

4. Verifies and enters charges and patient information revisions into the computerized information system.

5. Types forms, letters, appointment cards, receipts, histories, records, vouchers, charts, or other materials from a rough draft or other source utilizing computer and/or electronic medical record (EMR).

6. Composes routine letters, rough draft report narratives, and other correspondence as required. Activities may involve use of technical and/or medical terminology and independent action and discretion.

7. Receives fees from patients and other sources. Accurately maintains records, files, charts, and other information. Pulls schedules and obtains records for patient care providers in a timely manner.

8. Courteously greets patients, physicians, visitors, and other customers. Answers telephone and receives callers with exceptional customer service. Schedules and confirms appointments, takes messages, and returns phone calls promptly. Assists patients with problems encountered. Refers individuals to appropriate personnel as needed.

9. Interacts with physicians, staff, and patients to relay information accurately. Ensures and assists with appropriate patient follow-up and customer service evaluations.

10. Gathers and compiles statistical data and prepares standardized reports such as patient demographics, patient visits, and provider utilization.

11. Accurately maintains records, files, charts, and other information. Verifies accuracy of information and completeness of records, forms, and other documents according to detailed procedures or by comparison with original sources. Obtains necessary information for preparing new records; ascertains credit and insurance information; and obtains any missing reports, tests, results, x-rays, and so forth. Pulls schedules for patient care providers in a timely manner.

12. Assists in the orientation of personnel newly assigned to the clinic.

13. Requisitions supplies and equipment. Receives and distributes mail. Performs other miscellaneous clerical work as required.

14. Ability to anticipate what patients require at each visit such as timing of testing and ensuring patients complete what is needed prior to leaving office. Including required teaching directed by type of appointment or gestational age of pregnant patient.

15. Flexibility and ability to multitask in a clinic setting.

16. Able to handle unforeseen events, problem solve for solutions.

17. Confidence relaying provider directed instructions to patient for follow-up, procedures, or test results.

18. Serves as a subject matter expert, facilitating clinical direction and promoting evidenced based care.

19. Performs other duties as required/assigned. Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

· High School graduate and/or GED equivalent.

· Certified BLS provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross obtained within 18 months prior to hire date or job transfer date or Certified Instructor.

· Previous private obstetrical and gynecological office experience preferred, 1 year minimum recommended.

· Proficiency in medical terminology specifically related to obstetrics as demonstrated by completion of a terminology quiz.

· A minimum of five years of experience in responsible office work in a clinical or outpatient setting, preferred.

· Six months of experience in work involving third party billing, or completion of a course in billing procedures, preferred.

· Working knowledge of ambulatory clinic practices and procedures,

· Previous EMR experience required.

· Ability to make accurate and rapid arithmetic calculations and tabulations. Aptitude for computerized information processing.

· Ability to communicate both orally and in written formats.

· Ability to type accurately on forms, lists, and so forth. Ability to understand and execute both oral and written orders.

· Ability to write legibly and to read and interpret medical charts and other data. Ability to maintain required records.

· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

· Ability to establish and maintain a positive relationship with patients, physicians, and other medical center staff.

· Ability to tactfully and courteously communicate with patients, physicians, medical center staff, and the general public.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
