Job Title: Residential Care Worker (RCW)
RCW Workers report directly to the RCW Supervisor
Essential RCW duties and responsibilities are as follows but not limited to:
Requirements:
- Must attach an up to date resume with our application for employment
- Must have high school diploma or GED
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a (type C) chauffeurs endorsement
- Clean driving record
- Recovery coach certification from CCAR or State of Michigan Peer Recovery Certification (preferred)
- Must be able to pass an illicit drug test that is also marijuana and alcohol free.
- Must be able to pass a background check clear of sexual assault. All others will be looked at, investigated, and considered on an individual basis.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct and facilitate recovery support group meetings as needed
- Complete scheduled room checks, safety checks, and resident supervision checks as required.
- Ensure program schedule and activities schedule are maintained
- Conduct group and individual life skill trainings and activities as required
- A Shift RCWs must prepare and serve continental breakfast
- Transport residents (using HLRC vehicle) to off site recovery support group meetings and other appointments
- Complete and file any incident reports or recipient rights complaints
- Complete all housing orientation and intake requirements of new residents
- Conduct room search and personal (pat down) searches as needed and as required
- Maintain work area cleanliness as required of the RCW
- Assist residents in developing appropriate cleaning skills by training and role modeling a clean living space.
- Confiscate all contraband and secure contraband according to policy
- Utilize agency and local crisis response plan in case of emergency or police intervention (i.e. suicidal, homicidal ideation or threat)
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings, in service trainings, and all other special meetings
- Implement rules, policies and procedures, and guidelines consistently, and orientate residents.
- Document resident activities and movement as required by the program
- Perform all other duties as required or assigned
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which may include wearing name-tags, company branded shirt, or uniform.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- An applicant that is a person in recovery must currently have at least 2 years or more of current uninterrupted sobriety/clean time and total abstinence from legal substances such as marijuana and alcohol.
- Demonstrate and role model recovery both on the job and within their community.
- Basic knowledge of the traditional 12 step recovery program and the spiritual principals thereof.
- Excellent communications skills
- High level of interpersonal skills, poise, empathy
- Ability to exercise maturity and boundaries at all times
- Maintain professionalism in integration with staff and residents at all times
References and Background Checks Required: (References cannot be family members)
- State and federal sexual offenders
- ICHAT (Michigan State Police)
- Michigan Driving Record (Secretary of State). If You have been been a Michigan resident for 5 or less years, you may be required to provide your driving history from the state you previously lived in.
- Must be able to pass an illicit drug and alcohol screening including marijuanna
- Must provide no less and no more than three references. NOTE: Applicants that are a person in recovery must provide proof of clean time. Acceptable references can be your sponsor, a therapist, or two persons in recovery that attend the same recovery support meetings you attend and have at least two years of continuous sobriety/clean time. These two references count only as one reference.
