Position Purpose:
Manage all incoming and outgoing calls, ensuring efficient communication and routing of calls to the appropriate departments or individuals. Includes answering calls, transferring calls, taking messages, and providing information to callers about the hospital's services or locations. Additionally, also responsible for managing emergency calls, making announcements, and acting as a security point by monitoring the ER door after normal visiting hours and reporting any issues. Assist with patient registration and insurance verification.

Essential Job Functions:
· Answering all incoming calls.
· Takes and refers messages as needed.
· Properly transfer calls to necessary departments or extensions.
· Assist with registration of patients when needed.
· Clearly announces all emergency codes.
· Maintains updated on-call list for hospital, staff, and clinics.
· Maintains Provider absence.
· Operate an external radio paging system when needed.
· Keeps volunteers updated with current patient information.
· Assist with the cashier drawer as necessary when the cashier is not on duty.
· Performs nightly census.
Other Job Duties:
· Processes pre-admission/admission to accurately obtain information necessary for admission and reimbursement by responsible payer.
· Obtains patient or patient’s legal representative signature on required admission consent. Witnesses, dates, and signs.
· Collects, assembles, and verifies pre-admission and admission information to form a complete record.
· Accurately and completely prepares identification records for patients in accordance with established procedures.
· Starts insurance verification.
· Forwards completed information to appropriate departments in a timely manner.
· Arranges for transportation for patients to appropriate hospital department or home.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. One year of experience in a hospital or similar medical facility is preferred.
Computer experience preferred.
Visual, auditory and speech acuity requisite to verbal and written communication with patients, families, physicians, and other persons involved with patient’s admission.
