POSITION DESCRIPTION
Huron Valley Schools is seeking a Coordinator Elementary Categorical Programming who values collaboration and is well versed in best practices within special education. This individual will demonstrate success in building relationships, supporting special education programming and in building futures one student at a time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field.
- Certification as a teacher in the State of Michigan with endorsement in special education and or approval in related fields such as school social work or school psychology.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience servicing students with disabilities in various settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and confidentially with general and special education teachers, administrators, parents and support staff members.
- Certified CPI instructor, or willingness to become certified to assist in teaching.
- Certified CI trainer or willingness to become certified to train others in Huron Valley Schools.
- Demonstrate ability to work with high stress situations and have a strong ability to seek creative solutions.
- Strong written and communications skills to lend toward solution seeking with staff, parents and advocates on behalf of students and the district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with hiring, evaluations, and professional development for elementary SLPs, PSYs, and other staff members.
- Support the identification, programming, and supervision of ESY students at the elementary level.
- Support and assist with the management of student referrals.
- Support district-wide initiatives and professional development, including CPI training and health services coordination.
- Support the coordination of dental, vision, and hearing services in collaboration with OCHD.
- Provide a particular focus upon boots on the ground support for Elementary Categorical Programs.
- Establish regular traveling work locations at each elementary school where categorical programs exist--remain flexible and able to transition where supports might be needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Associate Director of Student Support Services.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS: Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
