Hurt & Proffitt, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to oversee our Environmental Permitting and Erosion & Sediment Control Inspection teams in the Lynchburg/Gretna/Roanoke area. This position involves managing staff, responsible for securing and ensuring compliance with environmental and engineering permits, including NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act), Joint Permit Applications, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Virginia Pollution Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) permits, and environmental reviews. Additionally, the role includes overseeing the erosion and sediment control (ESC) inspection staff to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. There will be some occasional regional travel associated with this position as needed to project sites. This position will work in a professional office environment, but will also work outdoors and may be exposed to uneven terrain and various other physical demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Environmental Permitting and ESC Inspection teams, fostering collaboration and professional development.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of environmental and engineering permits, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Manage the coordination and execution of erosion and sediment control inspections, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and project specifications.
- Review environmental assessments, reports, and inspection documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies, clients, and project stakeholders.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client expectations and company standards.
- Stay up to date with changes in environmental regulations, erosion control practices, and permitting processes, and ensure their implementation across the teams.
- Support business development by contributing to proposals, cost estimates, and project scoping for environmental permitting and inspection services.
- Act as the primary point of contact for permitting and ESC-related inquiries, both internally and externally.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and erosion control practices.
- Familiarity with NEPA, SWPPP, VPDES, EIR and other relevant environmental regulations.
- Strong understanding of erosion and sediment control principles, inspection processes, and best management practices.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams and supervising staff.
- Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with GIS, permitting, or inspection software is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and a diverse range of stakeholders.
