JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE/DEPARTMENT: Summer Camp Counselor
POSITION TYPE: Seasonal – 9 weeks 18yrs & Older
WAGE RANGE: $15.00-16.00 D.O.E.
SUPERVISORY: No SUPERVISED BY: Camp Supervisor & Children’s Center Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: Provide safe activities for children attending weeklong summer day camp. Will assist the camp supervisor in planning, implementing, and overseeing games, crafts, hikes, huckleberry picking, swimming, and other kid friendly activities.
REQUIREMENTS: Must be available Monday through Friday including any holidays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Contribute to the overall vision, direction and implementation of Schweitzer Adventure Camp by performing the following:
- Provide a safe program.
- Provide a fun and entertaining program.
- Pick up children at the bottom of the mountain and return with them at the end of the day.
- Provide experiences including hiking, nature studies, healthy games, outdoor education activities, water games plus others.
- Plans and provides healthy snacks.
- Participates in the upkeep and cleanliness of the facilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Can vary physical position or activity for comfort and can take breaks at will. Position entails 10% sitting and 90% active movement; will lift 25lbs frequently. Must bend, squat, kneel, climb, spin, dance, hula hoop, twist, and reach above shoulder level frequently. Will use hands for grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Worksite is 25% inside and 75% outside. Hazards are variable weather conditions and variable terrain. Hearing, speech, sight and walking are required.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Must have extensive knowledge of Schweitzer Mountain facilities and activities. Responsibilities are listed as guidelines and the position is not necessarily limited to these items.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
SKILLS: Needs CPR and first aid training; must be certified or willing to be trained. Basic swimming skills required. Lifeguard certification preferred, or will be trained in basic pool safety.
ATTRIBUTES: Positive attitude, patient, confident, creative, loves kids, mature, and enjoys outdoor adventures.
EDUCATION: English reading, writing, and communication, basic math
EXPERIENCE: Camp counselor, outdoor education or teaching experience preferred.
LICENSE NEEDED: Position is subject to a background check and fingerprinting.
MACHINES OR TOOLS OPERATED: Vacuum, dishwasher, stove, household cleaners, vehicle
JUDGMENT/MENTAL COMPLEXITY: Moderate to High
