Key Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain tooling in peak condition
- Understand specifications and the desired result by reading mechanical drawings, etc.
- Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
- Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
- Supervise the machine while it executes the program and make any necessary adjustments to produce the desired result
- Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completely properly
- Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repair
- Maintains continuity among shifts by documenting and communicating any actions taken or needed
- Make subjective quality decisions regarding part cosmetics/aesthetics
- Provide key information on machining operation for maintenance during troubleshooting
- Provide technical leadership and training to entry and intermediate machinists
- Investigate and perform root cause analysis on non-conformance and scrap events. Communicate as required with team leader, quality analyst and programming support on findings and correct dispositioning
- Support process manufacturing capability studies and improvement projects
- Be the primary point of contact for operations representation in manufacturing reviews
- Conduct audits of manufacturing processes
- Regrind or alter standard tooling to meet custom feature requirements
- Program and edit parts, write macro sub-routines as necessary to facilitate operation of unattended equipment
- Develop tool specification and procure for machining various dimensional characteristics
- Perform Machine set up and first piece program/part validation for any ‘one-off’ prototype job that is new to area
- High school diploma or high school equivalency required
- Demonstrated proficiency in CNC machining preferred
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
- Basic computer knowledge required
- Understanding of machine controllers (PLC’s and CNC’s)
- Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude and math skills required
- Good communication skills
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
