The Operations Manager I,II, III is responsible for the effective planning, execution and supervision of the duties associated with terminal operations workforce. This includes ensuring efficient, safe and productive operations for customers, terminal area and cargo type. This role is also responsible for the development and achievement of operational and financial goals and objectives and the development of management peers.

Quick Facts  

Compensation: $75,500 to $139,700, depending on experience in marine terminal operations

Working hours: Full-time, salary, on-site

Reports to:  Senior Manager, Operations

Shifts: Day shift 6 am to 5 pm and Night Shift 4 pm to 3 am,
Typically scheduled 4 shifts a week depending on business need. Must be able to work both shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Effectively supervises and directs the work activities of labor, foreman and other personnel; ensuring, performance expectations and customer needs are met.
  • Develops short range business plans designed to achieve company goals and objectives while operating within approved fiscal budget.
  • Determines the amount of labor needed for each day and ensures labor is order appropriately for your assigned Department.
  • Makes decisions affecting overtime cost and general expenditures and ensures they are made in the best interest of our company and customers.
  • Determines additional staffing / labor needs and contacts union hall in advance, ensuring cost-effective staffing and availability.
  • Ensures payroll accuracy and makes appropriate changes as needed and approves payrolls for the shift supervised.
  • Identify areas of cost reduction and leads and supports improvement initiatives.
  • Actively champions and manages the company’s Safety program ensuring that all labor and staff comply with accident prevention / safety and workers' compensation programs and procedures and provide input and solutions.
  • Works closely with Maintenance & Repair/Terminal Departments to ensure the appropriate equipment allocation meets operational demands.
  • Maintains positive relations with labor and union officials and that the Collective Bargaining Agreements associated to your workforce are understood and followed.
  • Counsels, disciplines, and terminates Foremen and Supervisory Clerks when necessary
  • Ensures union leadership, foreman and clerks enforce collective bargaining agreements and work in the best interest of the company.
  • Advises Labor Relations team on investigative matters and assist in adjudicating all complaints filed through Labor Relations committees up to arbitration.
  • Provide regular training and feedback to labor management staff
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection process for steady labor and management staff
  • Communicates areas of accountability and performance expectations to workforce staff
  • Develops, communicates, maintains, and improves operating and administrative procedures (consistent with area procedures and objectives) designed to provide required information and facilitate internal practices
  • Ensure that all company policies, procedures and controls are followed and that required reports are completed accurately, submitted on time to appropriate staff, customers and other designated personnel, and that appropriate staff and labor have a full understanding of these procedures.

Attend required safety trainings and meetings; follow all safety and health guidelines, standards, practices, policies, and procedures; and actively participate in the Husky’s Emergency Preparedness program and activities

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • BS/BA degree in Marine Administration, Logistics and Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience working in management preferred

Related experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Marine Terminal Operations or closely related field.

Required Credentials:

  • Obtain and Maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) issued by the Department of Homeland Security
  • Valid US Driver’s License
