Adjunct Instructor - English
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Adjunct Instructors to teach courses in our dynamic English department. If you are enthusiastic about fostering critical thinking, honing writing skills, and engaging students in the art of literature, we want to hear from you! As an Adjunct Instructor in English, you will have the opportunity to teach a variety of courses, including Introduction to College Composition, College Rhetoric and Composition, a 2000-level literature course, and potentially other courses based on your expertise and the needs of the department.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designing and delivering engaging lessons aligned with program syllabi
- Providing timely and thoughtful feedback on student assignments
- Holding office hours to support student success
- Collaborating with the department chair and fellow faculty members to maintain a cohesive and vibrant English program
- Submitting required paperwork, such as grade reports, in a timely manner, in accordance with University policies
QUALIFICATIONS
- An MFA or a master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing, English, or a related field
- Transcripts required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Experience teaching pre-college-level integrated reading and writing courses
- Experience teaching college-level English rhetoric and composition
- Experience teaching 2000-level literature courses (if you’re interested in teaching literature)
- A commitment to working with a diverse student population from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
SUPERVISION
- This position reports to the Department Chair under the Dean of the College of Arts & Science
SALARY RANGE
- $3,000 per three-hour course
- For Fall and Spring semesters, pay is prorated to $300 per student if course enrollment is below ten students on the 12th day of class
- For Summer, pay is prorated if enrollment is below seven students on the first day of class

- Part-Time; seasonal, in-person.

Founded in 1875, Huston-Tillotson University is Austin's first institution of higher education.
