Maintenance Technician I
POSITION SUMMARY
Under indirect supervision, provides maintenance and repair services to equipment, and real property used by faculty, staff, students, and visitors of the University. Utility person available for service in various positions such as provides event set up services, and other basic public assistance services as needed, and performs routine interior and exterior cleaning duties. Ability to remain alert during emergency situations and provide first-line response to maintenance management. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Minor maintenance and repair of building and mechanical equipment associated with the university such as HVAC, drive belts, filters, strainers, plumbing, faucets, drains, toilets, urinals, electrical equipment, switches, outlets, interior and exterior lighting, doors, windows, lighting, and gates to ensure security;
- Minor interior and exterior painting, minor roof repairs, light landscaping, light pest control and trash pick up to enhance the beauty of the campus, watching for and reporting irregularities, such as possible roof leaks, gutters/scuppers and downspouts not functioning properly, doors, windows and locks.
- Any and all potential safety hazards should be reported to their supervisor immediately. This position is considered essential staff. This person will be expected to report to work even if the university may be closed, during severe weather events such as snow, ice and rainstorms if/when safety or property are at risk.
- This person will also respond to emergency maintenance situations during regular work hours, after hours, holidays, and on call. Based on the university calendar of events, such as but not limited to graduation, convocation, homecoming, all essential staff are expected to work.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduation or equivalent required;
- Must have a valid Texas driver license to operate campus vehicles;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel;
- Ability to complete routine paperwork;
- Ability to successfully conduct preventative and repair maintenance without direct supervision;
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures;
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations;
- Skilled in performing building maintenance and repair procedures;
- Knowledge of safety and security standards and how they pertain to commercial buildings.
- Ability to understand, follow written and verbal instructions with strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientated;
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises; moderate physical activity;
- Requires handling of average-weight objects, standing and/or walking for extended periods of times during rush and busy hours of the semester;
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions;
- Work also requires ability to climb stairs and ladders, work from ladders or elevated platform, and work on roofs or in crawl spaces.
SUPERVISION
- This position reports to the Director of Facilities.
SALARY RANGE
- $21 hourly, plus benefits!
