RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions –
- Assist with planning and implementing learning opportunities (lesson plans) that reflect the Center’s goals and objectives and in collaboration with other Center staff.
- Share responsibility for the smooth progression of the programming day.
- Set up the classroom in learning centers, such as the drama room, reading, science, art, table toys, blocks, and music and be responsible for maintaining the same in an orderly appearance.
- Prepare daily snacks and supervise the noon meal.
- Provide a healthy and safe environment for the children.
- Communicate daily with parents concerning the activities of their child.
- Attend parent orientation, staff meetings, professional workshops, and 10 hours of in-service training per
year. - Coordinate all facets of the Center with the Coordinator and be a team worker with all staff, students, and parents.
- Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
- Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
Secondary –
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Child Care Center Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS (Essential):
- Enjoy working with young children.
- One year of childcare assistant experience in a licensed center required, along with CDA or completion of twelve (12) hours of Early Childhood Education courses, or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers, parents, children, and others who visit the Center.
- Physical requirements include the ability to keep pace with young children, such as walking/running, hopping, jumping, performing simple aerobic exercise; lift up to approximately 50 pounds; bending, stooping, etc.
- Physical requirements include excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills; excellent organizational skills; ability and willingness to collaborate; ability to work independently; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; light to moderate, indoor, and outdoor work environment.
- Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Valid Kansas driver’s license (or ability to obtain the same) and a safe driving record.

HOURLY WAGE and STATUS:
The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. The part-time support staff position is 12 months annual (261 workdays per fiscal year), and nonexempt. This position qualifies for the KPERS Retirement Plan but is not eligible for the HutchCC Benefit Package due to the part-time status. Workdays are generally Monday through Friday, variable hours that average less than 30 per week during the summer, and substituting for absences during the school year; no set hours during the school year.
