TITLE: Youth Services Library Assistant
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs a variety of library functions under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian & Assistant Supervisor. May supervise shelvers and student clerks. Does related work as required. This is a part time (20 hour) position; Monday-Thursday evenings & 8 hour shift Saturdays.

Performs circulation functions (check in, check out, renewal)

Assists with library card registration of new patrons

Shelves library materials

Receive and direct phone calls

Assists patrons with selection of library materials and reader’s advisory

Assists patrons using the photocopier machine

Assists with creating and promoting library services and events
-
Assists with decorating the departments (Youth and YA), creating book displays, and coming up with passive programs on a monthly basis in collaboration with staff

Other associated duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Aptitude for library work; good understanding of basic aims and services of libraries; Understanding of business and library ethics with relation to sensitive information; initiative; resourcefulness; good judgment; orderliness; accuracy; tact; adaptability; ability to get along with others; compassionate; courteous; displays leadership qualities; ability to make decisions; creativity; ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with library staff and general public, especially children and young adults. Regular attendance and punctuality is essential.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma

Knowledge of current technology (use of Google Workspace)

Continued education preferred

Some evening and weekend work required

Kansas driver's license required

Meeting physical demands of the position

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, cash register, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, scanner, DVD player, HDMI TV, Bluetooth speaker, tablet, iPad, and other equipment used in the department
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position operates mainly indoors in an office setting and in direct customer service situations. There will be occasional travel required and some work outdoors at programs and events. This is a fully on-site position.
