Nurse Tech - LDRP

Participates in direct patient care and other supportive activities under the direct delegation of the licensed nursing staff. Maintains and applies principles of safety. Recognizes when and how to escalate patient concerns up the chain of command. Works in cooperation with other health team members.

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

• Assists the RN or LPN by collecting, recording, and reporting age specific data that includes: TPRs, BPs and blood sugar readings. Assists with wound photography and measurements. Reports observed responses to treatment. Assures data is complete, accurate and comprehensive.
• Promptly reports unusual observations or changes in patient condition/behavior.
• Clarifies conflicting or confusing directions so patient care is completed without delay or confusion.
• Applies knowledge of growth and development of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as appropriate.
• Initiates learning activities to increase understanding and update appropriate skills through both formal and informal activities.
• Competently completes all aspects of patient care including age appropriate techniques for ADL’s, mobility, transfers, positioning, hygiene, toileting, and correct application of orthotics/prosthesis, and use of adaptive devices.
• Prioritizes workload and completes patient care assignment in a timely manner.
• Collects specimens as directed.
• Records care given as well as observed responses to treatment, including patient’s participation in wound care/hyperbaric plan. Data is complete, accurate and comprehensive.
• Completes unit tasks such as cleaning exam areas, cleaning hyperbaric gurneys and chambers, sterile instrument processing, transporting patients, and running errands.
• Skills listed on the Nurse Tech Skill’s Checklist may be performed once the NT has performed the skill as a nursing student at a satisfactory level in the classroom or clinical setting. The NT will be supervised while performing these listed skills directly by an RN until performance is demonstrated / documented as competent. The NT may NOT administer medications, start or maintain IV lines, take or transcribe physician orders.

• Currently enrolled in an ACEN or CCNE accredited Registered Nurse program with successful completion of at least one full year of clinical nursing. The Nurse Tech applicant must submit:
  • Letter of recommendation for employment as a Nurse Tech by a current nursing faculty member
  • Evidence of current enrollment and achievement of required grades
  • Evidence of passing grades in all clinical courses and an updated Nurse Tech Skill’s Checklist must be submitted at the end of each school semester
  • Withdrawal from nursing curriculum or failure to meet requirements for continuous enrollment must be reported to the Director - PCS of Unit assigned immediately and is no longer eligible for Nurse Tech status.

• One-year nurse assistant experience in an acute care setting

• Healthcare Provider BLS through the AHA or ARC before start date.

• Certification as a CNA in the State of Kansas
