Shop Assistant

Job Summary:

As a Shop Assistant, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing a variety of construction equipment, vehicles, and machinery. You will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring all equipment is in safe and optimal working conditions to support our construction projects. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

· Inspect, diagnose, and maintain construction equipment, including but not limited to loaders, bulldozers, excavators, trucks, and small engines.

· Perform regular preventive maintenance on machinery, trucks, and other equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

· Conduct routine inspections of equipment and report issues to the Shop Manager.

· Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues promptly.

· Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections.

· Collaborate with site supervisors to prioritize equipment repairs and maintenance needs.

· Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies.

· Manage and maintain the organization of the shop, including tools and parts inventory.

· Assist in equipment mobilization and demobilization for job sites.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Class A CDL
• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in mechanics preferred.
• Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in construction equipment repair.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to operate diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Welding and Fabrication certificates are preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with safety standards and protocols in a construction environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate various types of construction equipment.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to do the following consistently without assistance:
• Lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Walk, bend, twist, turn, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb and squat in cramped or awkward positions when necessary.
• Walk on uneven surfaces frequently.
• Work in severe elements including extreme heat or cold.

Pay: $14.64 - $18.00 per hour
