Diligent and detail-oriented Entry-Level Shipping and Receiving Material Handler I will be responsible for efficiently handling incoming and outgoing shipments of materials and products. This role requires basic knowledge of warehouse operations, the ability to follow instructions, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required
- Experience working a fork lift
- Valid Driver’s License
- 1-3 years’ experience in a warehouse or similar environment is preferred but not required
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to use inventory management software to update records, track stock levels, and locate items within the warehouse.
- Proficiency in preparing and processing shipping and receiving documents such as bills of lading, packing lists, and shipping labels.
- Familiarity with operating basic warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, and potentially forklifts (if certified).
- Understanding of safety protocols and procedures related to handling and moving materials, including knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Basic knowledge of quality control processes to inspect incoming materials for damage or discrepancies and ensure accurate order fulfillment.
- Competence in using computers to enter data, navigate inventory systems, and generate reports related to shipping and receiving activities.
- Ability to organize and maintain shipping and receiving documentation in both physical and electronic formats for easy retrieval and audit purposes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, supervisors, and external carriers or suppliers.
- Basic problem-solving skills to address discrepancies in shipments, identify root causes, and take appropriate corrective actions.

- Forklift Operation: Proficiency in safely operating a forklift to move heavy materials and pallets within the warehouse (if certified).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive incoming shipments of materials and products.
- Verify quantities and inspect for any damage or discrepancies.
- Unload trucks and move materials to designated storage areas using hand trucks, pallet jacks, or forklifts (if certified).
- Update inventory records and maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Label and store materials in proper locations within the warehouse.
- Perform cycle counts and participate in physical inventory counts as needed.
- Pick items from inventory based on customer orders or requisitions.
- Pack and prepare orders for shipment according to specified packing instructions and shipping methods.
- Ensure orders are complete and accurately labeled for shipment.
- Prepare shipping documents such as bills of lading and packing lists.
- Arrange shipments with carriers and schedule pickups.
- Load trucks with outgoing shipments and ensure they are securely packed and organized.
- Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any issues to supervisors.
- Keep work areas clean and organized, including sweeping floors and disposing of packaging materials.
